Carpool spaces have been established on campus for faculty and staff use. Each designated carpool space will be available to registered carpoolers only--until 10 am Monday through Friday. The campus Commuter Services office offers carpool partner matching services for students, faculty, and staff. There is an ongoing list maintained for such matching. We also work closely with SLO Rideshare office in downtown SLO for this service. Also see www.rideshare.org.
Cal Poly currently has 10 employee vanpools in operation, with over 150 vanpool riders.
The regional or county bus is called Regional Transit Authority, or RTA. It also serves campus directly. Cal Poly has subsidized bus passes for the regional/county bus for our employees and students since fiscal year 1990-91 thus allowing for a reduced pass for Cal Poly riders.
The city bus is called SLO Transit and serves campus directly. Since fiscal year 1985-86, Cal Poly has financially supported the city bus system. Funding comes from parking citation revenue, not from state general funds nor from student tuition. This subsidized bus fare allows our faculty, staff, and students to ride the bus at no cost to the rider.
Also see bus routes at www.rideshare.org.
Currently, there are over 2,000 bike rack spaces and 90 secure bike lockers available on campus. 57% students and 33% faculty/staff live within 5 miles of the Cal Poly campus; an easy bike commute.
Amtrak buses pick up and drop off on campus for train connections to most northbound, southbound, and the San Joaquin Valley trains. See a travel agent for details or visit www.amtrakcalifornia.com.
Cal Poly has developed its formal telecommuting policies and procedures. Contact Cal Poly's Human Resources Department for more information.
This program allows ridesharers to get home quickly in case of personal or family illness or emergencies. It is available to all faculty and staff who are "registered" at Commuter Services.
