| Commuter and Access Services is a
program coordinated by the University Police Department. Our focus is to assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors find and use
alternative transportation. Like many communities,
parking is often impacted during periods of peak use. During these times, traffic congestion increases and bumper to bumper
traffic is the result
Rather than being part of the crowd of single occupant personal
vehicles, join those of us who carpool, ride bikes, use buses... and walk. Our lungs will breath easier and our community will enjoy
the benefits of positive transportation choices.
The University has fully subsidized SLO Transit for the past
15 years, thus maintaining zero fare for Cal Poly riders.
The University Police Department commits a full time employee
to meet the needs for alternative transportation in our community.
Please
take a look at the following alternative transportation choices.
If you have questions, please call Susan Rains, the Commuter
& Access Coordinator at 805.756.6680 or e-mail her at

Forms can be faxed to Susan Rains at 805.756.7445.

| Carpools |
 |
Carpool spaces have been established
on campus for faculty and staff use. Each designated carpool
space will be available to registered carpoolers only--until
10 am Monday through Friday.
The campus Commuter Services office offers carpool partner
matching services for students, faculty, and staff. There
is an ongoing list maintained for such matching. We also work
closely with SLO Rideshare office in downtown SLO for this
service. Also see www.rideshare.org
or http://alternetrides.com/Home_Rides.asp?logoff=
|
| Vanpools |
 |
Cal
Poly currently has 10 employee vanpools in operation, with over
150 vanpool riders. |
| Regional/County
Bus |
 |
The
regional or county bus is called Regional Transit Authority,
or RTA. It also serves campus directly. Cal Poly has subsidized
bus passes for the regional/county bus for our employees and
students since fiscal year 1990-91 thus allowing for a reduced
pass for Cal Poly riders. Also see bus routes at www.rideshare.org. |
| City
Bus |
 |
The
city bus is called SLO Transit and serves campus directly. Since
fiscal year 1985-86, Cal Poly has financially supported the
city bus system. Funding comes from parking citation revenue,
not from state general funds nor from student tuition. This
subsidized bus fare allows our faculty, staff, and students
to ride the bus at no cost to the rider. Also see bus routes
at www.rideshare.org. |
| Bicycles |
 |
Currently,
there are over 2,000 bike rack spaces and 90 secure bike lockers
available on campus. 57% students and 33% faculty/staff live
within 5 miles of the Cal Poly campus; an easy bike commute. |
| Amtrak |
 |
Amtrak
buses pick up and drop off on campus for train connections to
most northbound, southbound, and the San Joaquin Valley trains.

| Telecommuting |
 |
Cal Poly has developed its formal telecommuting
policies and procedures. Contact Cal Poly's Human Resources Department for more information. |
| Guaranteed/Emergency
Ride Home |
 |
This program allows ridesharers to get home quickly
in case of personal or family illness or emergencies. It is available to all faculty and staff who are "registered" at Commuter
Services. |
| "Registry"
Program |
 |
This program is available to all faculty and staff
who rideshare one or more days per month using any method, i.e. bike, walk, bus, carpool, vanpool, or telecommute. It offers "incentives"
to not drive alone to campus for those employees who "register" at the campus Commuter Services office. |
