46% reduction in Part 1 crime. How come?
A Message from the Chief of Police . . .

The University Police Department hopes that you will find our website helpful and informative. We feel that it is important that our community remain informed about our activities and efforts.

For example, did you know that part 1 crime in our university community has dropped by 46% during the last six years? Why? We believe it is a result of the strong partnership we have with our community which includes an active and specific focus upon eliminating the root of problem issues. This approach means that instead of constantly addressing persistent symptoms (via traditional law enforcement methods only) we also seek out the source of the problem.

Various approaches, with our community partners, are then made until the problem source is adequately addressed. Frequently, it is the community members themselves who have the closest perspective and can offer the best insight on any particular community concern.

This approach, commonly known as Community Oriented Policing (COP), is something you can be involved in too. Please call on us when you need help, just as we may call on you for assistance. In partnership, our community will continue to meet with much success.

For more information regarding crime statistics please visit the Calif. Dept. of Justice websight at http://caag.state.ca.us/cjsc/datatabs.htm

If have any questions about the University Police Department website or have something you would like to talk to us about please call 6-2281. (As always, in an emergency dial 9-1-1.)
