The department maintains an Investigations Section comprised of investigators who are responsible for follow-up on all felony and serious misdemeanors. The investigators are trained in the area of criminal investigation, including sexual assault, drugs, computer/telecommunications fraud and interview and interrogation.

The investigators conduct background investigations on applicants for all departmental applicants, internal investigations and other internal campus investigations, as assigned.

This section maintains close contact with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office, the San Luis Obispo City Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department.
