In April 2004, President Warren Baker signed the Talloires Declaration, elevating Cal Poly’s commitment to sustainability and environmental literacy in teaching, theory, and practice. Cal Poly has established itself as an award winning leader in sustainability, in both academics and operations. The University’s polytechnic programs, sustainability curriculum, hands-on “learn by doing” philosophy, and outstanding faculty, staff, and students produce cutting edge research and sustainable solutions to real world problems. The student body is actively engaged in sustainability, having founded more than 50 sustainability focused clubs and organizations, and winning national recognition in sustainable design competitions and service learning projects. Sustainability is a driving force in campus planning and operations. The campus buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and land are used as a living laboratory to test, develop and implement new technologies and ideas. This website is intended to bring together information about the breadth of sustainability-related initiatives at Cal Poly.
