Benefits of Carpools

  • Save money by sharing the cost of a parking permit
  • Save on fuel and maintenance for your vehicle
  • Secure a parking space on campus
  • Employees can access reserved carpool spaces before 10 a.m.

Student Carpool

Carpools must consist of two to four Cal Poly students. Members commute and arrive on-campus together in one vehicle. All members of a carpool are required to pre-register with the program.

Up to two vehicles may be registered in the carpool at any time. Only one vehicle may be parked on-campus under the authorization of the parking permit at any time. If both vehicles will be parked on campus at the same time, additional daily or limited time parking must be purchased.

The carpool captain is financially responsible for the purchase of the parking permit. Carpool permits for 2023-24 will be issued for the academic year.

Student Carpool Application

Carpool applications accepted from Aug. 15 to Aug. 31 for Academic Year 2023-24.

Your carpool authorization will be granted once all information is confirmed to be valid. If your carpool application is declined due to invalid information, you have time to join the waitlist for a parking permit. Commuter waitlists open August 28, 2023.

Employee Carpool

Carpools must consist of a minimum of two or more staff or faculty members. One carpool member must have a valid long-term (quarterly, annual or payroll deducted) parking permit. Members commute and arrive on-campus together in one vehicle. Carpooling is not the same as sharing a parking permit.

No less than two members of the carpool must be in the vehicle upon arrival at the designated carpool parking space. Any parking citations issued to carpool participants are the responsibility of the owner/operator of the vehicle. Employee carpool authorizations are issued annually.

Log your trips in the Cal Poly Employee Network with Rideshare and be eligible for Guaranteed Ride Home program.
